Working Through A Bathroom Remodel: Three Areas To Consider For Your Remodel Posted on January 3, 2014

Remodel BathroomThe decision to remodel the bathroom is one that many homeowners will decide to make, and the process is something that is foreign to most homeowners.  If this is the first time that you are doing a remodel in a room of your home with plumbing, there are a lot of things that you will need to keep in mind.  A bathroom remodel is much different than a living room or bedroom remodel, and the first thing that you should do is contact a designer or a contractor to discuss the plans that you have for your bathroom.  They will walk you through the design process, and in doing so they will help you make the bathroom of your dreams.  There are three areas that you will really need to consider for your remodel.

The first thing that you will need to consider is the way that you wish to tile the bathroom, including the tile for the floor and the around the shower/tub.  Tile can be extremely expensive, so it is important that you take into account the total amount of coverage that you will need to get the bathroom complete.  There are ways to save money with your tiling, especially if you choose a midrange price point for your designs.  The right tiles will allow you to give your room a contemporary or classical feel, and the color/design of the tiles will set the atmosphere for the entire room.

Another place where you will have to make a lot of decisions is the sink or vanity.  Depending on where the bathroom is located, the decisions that you have to make will be even more complicated.  A master bathroom will usually have a double sink or a large sink and vanity.  A bathroom in other areas of the house will not need a double sink, so the decisions are a little easier to make.  The price of the sink will be largely dependent on the materials that you use for the countertops and the cabinets.  Going with real wood or rock will cost a lot more than using a composite material, yet composites will be almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

The final detail that you will need to think about for the bathroom is the lighting.  If you install a vanity in the bathroom your lighting needs will be more extreme than a traditional bathroom mirror.  For the interior of the bathroom you may find that track lights are the best way to keep the bathroom well lit.  There is not always a need for large overhead lights in the bathroom, and indirect light is usually more useful than indiscriminate lighting.  For the shower area you will need to have some kind of bright, direct light, to make sure that you are safe, but that is really the only place in the bathroom that you have to be concerned with brightness.

Bathroom remodels are fun, and they give you a chance to show off your creativity to visitors who come over.  There are things that you can do to control the costs and keep the remodel affordable, but the thing that you need to remember is that you have to be happy with the remodel when it is done.

I am Michelle Johnson, a happy homeowner whose bathroom remodel was completed less than a month ago.  The designer that I found at was willing to work with me through all of the decisions that I had to make, and I have been very pleased with the decisions that we made.  For Lancaster bathroom remodeling I highly recommend the professionals at Zephyr Thomas.
