Choosing the Right Condo for Your Needs

Choosing the Right Condo for Your Needs Posted on March 23, 2016Leave a comment

In most cases, individuals think that a condominium is a space that you buy in one of the tall fancy high-rise buildings in a city. This is the general notion of what a condo is, however, it’s incorrect. A condominium has everything to do with the type of ownership rather than the actual building or its layout.

For instance, you could buy a townhouse, or an apartment, or a detached house with a condo-type ownership, meaning you own everything one the inside and are co-owner of everything on the outside like the parking lot and the lawn. When choosing to go with condos in Seattle, there will be a set of special rules that apply to condominium ownership including being charged a fee for condo maintenance.

When thinking about which type of condo is right for you, you will need to consider whether you want something that is new or is older in architecture. Once you have figured this out, you can begin looking at the market to see what it has to offer. In most cases you will find condos in Seattle that consist of the following types:

Apartments: Will have clearly defined spaces with clear partitions between various rooms. They are often in both new and old historic buildings, and all pipes are almost always out of sight. The ceilings will stand around eight feet in height and will come with double-paned windows as standard.

Lofts: Will have fewer partitions between various rooms, meaning that spaces are much wider and much more open for use. This may require you to make your own partitions to section of areas for specific use. They are usually in old historic buildings or office spaces, and pipes may be present in the space. They will have open ceilings that are higher up and may only have single-paned windows.

Townhouses: Are smaller than detached houses, but are larger than apartments. They often have a small yard for use, are within the city limits and have tighter knit neighborhoods. Units may be attached to other units, and there may be amenities such as a pool or gym.

Detached Houses: Are where you will get the most variety and style, and they will almost always come with a larger yard. They are in suburban areas, and they may not have a close knit community. Other amenities such as pools and such are on a house to house basis.

It is important that you decide what type of space you want, as this will direct you towards what type of condo you will want to have ownership over.
